International Practice in Conformity Assessment of Radio Equipment

Around the world, radio and telecommunications equipment is subject to conformity assessment before it may be placed on the market. The mechanisms differ — type approval, certification by an authorized body, or a supplier's declaration of conformity supported by accredited test reports — but the goal is the same: safe products that use the radio spectrum efficiently and without harmful interference.

For exporters and importers, understanding these differences is essential. A product certified for one market cannot automatically be sold in another; frequency allocations, output power limits and administrative procedures vary between jurisdictions.

Certification bodies play a practical role here: they help applicants identify the applicable national requirements, arrange the necessary testing and prepare documentation in the form the regulator expects.
